Weight Loss During and After Menopause, Useful Tips

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Upon reaching your menopausal stage, just like most women, you will realize that your weight is gradually gaining even though no alteration in your diet and exercise. It is important to note that you are dealing with a big change in your body when you are going through menopause.

As your body’s production of estrogen drops, you may find yourself putting on more wait. Throughout the process of your body adapting to a healthier state, the steps needed to keep yourself fit and healthy will have to adjust as well.

Think of it this way, your habits had to change between your teenage years and your adulthoods. It makes sense that they would need to change from before menopause to after menopause as well.

The way that body fat is distributed has a lot to do with menopause, and you will find that with that in mind the decline of estrogen levels can increase fat around the middle in women, something that can happen even if the total body weight remains the same. It is very common to gain weight around menopause. Genetics may play a real role in your shape as well as an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Many women retire around this stage, and that can play a role as well.

Afer menopause there are still things that you can do to help you lose weight. First make sure that you are getting all the nutrients that you need. Since the reduction in estrogen causes your calcium deposits to shrink, it’s important to get your calcium another way. If you are going to get magnesium in your diet that will help you get the calcium to where it needs to go.

Beyond that, start keeping a food journal. In every case, it’s smart to be certain you are aware of just what you eat and the way it affects you. Your body is going through a lot of changes during this time in your life, and it is certainly going to have different needs. Diets that involve a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables are the best kind to keep you healthier on the whole as well as helping you keep up your energy to lose weight.

Similarly, remember that exercise is going to play a large role in what you need to do to keep your body fit and trim. Take some time and really find an exercise that appeals to you.

Consider which are your options to get (and stay) active. If you can find an exercise routine that you like and can mix it with other actions, it will help you stick with the routine without getting bored.

Think what your body wants, weight loss is possible through and after the menopause only if you completely know your body.

Can Hoodia Help YOU with Your Weight Loss Efforts?

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

You can picture yourself thin. You want to feel better and have higher energy levels. Wanting these things and being able to stick with a weight loss plan are two very different things. Failing to stick to a diet and lose weight is very common, but there are ways to help boost your will power and help you lose weight and feel great!

The problem with following a healthy weight loss program and exercise routine is usually about your ability to stick with the program. You knew what you should or should not eat, but temptation got the best of you.

Hoodia may be your solution to this common dieting problem. To determine this, you need to know how hoodia works, which will in turn, help you decide if hoodia will solve your weight loss dilemmas.

Hoodia gordonii is a cactus found in South Africa. How did a cactus become a popular weight loss aid? Years ago, an anthropologist observed the bushman chewing on the stem of the cactus when they were out on long hunting treks where vegetation was sparse. He learned that they did this to stave off hunger.

Years later, we know why hoodia is such an effective weight loss aid. The active ingredient in hoodia gordonii is p57, which is capable of mimicking glucose. Your hunger is physiologically triggered by low levels of glucose. When glucose drops, your brain sends a signal to let you know you should eat. Because p57 mimics glucose, the brain is fooled into thinking that glucose levels are just fine and in turn, you do not feel hungry.

In other words, hoodia is an appetite suppressant. If you have been unable to stick with a stricter diet in order to lose weight because you feel hungry while on the diet, then hoodia may help you control your appetite. If you are an emotional eater and eat even when you are not hungry, hoodia may help give you that edge you need to get through a craving without indulging and achieve the slender figure you desire!

Adjusting your brain’s response to glucose can be very beneficial for weight loss because your diet that leads to weight gain made this response ineffective. If you previously ate large portions, too much throughout the day, and/or foods high in sugar content, you altered your hunger triggering system.

Diets high in sugar also foul up the signaling system for the same reason. Your brain got used to high levels of glucose and adjusted accordingly. Hoodia can help you eat less because it will restore the normal signaling process.

There are no side effects with hoodia. Caffeine or other stimulants used in traditional weight loss aids often cause a jittery feeling, but hoodia does not seem to produce this same effect. Because diabetics rely on steady glucose levels for managing their disease, they should not take hoodia. As well, pregnant or nursing mothers should not take hoodia (or any other weight loss supplement).

Does Milk Really Help You Lose Weight Fast?

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

So you think that milk is good for your body? If yes then you really need to read this article right till the end. There are a lot of people who have similar believe as you, and I cannot blame anybody for this because dairy farmers are responsible for all these. They claim that milk will help strengthen your bones because of the presence of calcium in it. They also claim that milk will give you such energy boost that you will feel like a superman. Obviously, they want you to believe this way so that they can cash in on your gullibility. However, just as some other myths are doing the rounds of the weight loss industry, this is also a myth.

1. As a matter of fact, the milk you purchase from your local store is not pure milk: it has been processed with the help of pasteurization, meaning that it has been boiled at a temperature of 160 centigrade and then cooled down. Milk is pasteurized in order to kill any and all the germs present in the raw milk. On the flip side, pasteurization not only kills the germs, but also the beneficial nutrients present in it. Enzymes such as lipase and phosphates can be a lot beneficial to your body, but you don’t get those enzymes in the pasteurized milk that you purchase from your local shop.

That is not however the end of the story. Pasteurization also kills antibodies such as immunoglobulin that is present in raw milk. Immunoglobulin strengthens the immune system in your body against various diseases. From my point of view, milk will not benefit you, at least not the one that comes in sealed packets.

After pasteurization is completed, the milk is homogenized to keep the cream at the bottom. Once this is done, several synthetic vitamins are added to it in order to make it ‘nutritious’. However, remember that synthetic vitamins are not and can never be substitutes for natural vitamins. They are man-made chemicals and will do more harm than good to your body.

2. Milk causes weight gain: Contrary to what you might believe, milk will actually make you gain weight rather than lose it. If you are in the habit of drinking milk frequently, it is not surprising that you have become overweight. As you drink more and more milk, you will gain more and more weight.

3. Milk causes a host of other diseases: Besides weight gain, there are a lot of harmful side effects of drinking milk, such as arthritis, constipation, skin allergies, cancer, acne, etc.

So do you still think milk is good for you?

Easy weight loss for busy women

Friday, February 27th, 2009

If you are overweight then finding an easy weight loss program that suits you is probably something that you need for your health and surprisingly, there are ones that work. There is more harm caused to an overweight person than just pride as many serious medical conditions are as a result of obesity.

Although there are many easy weight loss systems available, especially over the Internet, the degree to which anyone sees results is down to how well they apply themselves to the problem. Before you decide on how you intend to lose weight you need to decide if it is for your benefit; i.

Effective weight loss programs require you take certain facts into consideration; for instance, the time you eat during the day as well as what it is you eat, how often and whether you exercise at all. Losing weight quickly like twenty five pounds a more can actually do more harm than good to your body as it suddenly has to adapt to a lower weight and it can also give unrealistic future expectations.

To lose weight easily often means losing it slowly; for instance, one pound per week is only 500 calories a day and if some exercise and dieting is combined this can be achieved without any health implications. Most of us eat too much and definitely an excess of junk foods which we shouldn’t rely on the way we do although it is not a good idea cut out everything you enjoy.

Of course we often eat more when we do not feel very good about ourselves or are depressed about our lives, which is often called comfort eating. Problems occur when medical conditions arise from overeating, like diabetes which is on the increase but we must not forget other diseases like cancer, heart conditions and raised blood pressure. When dealing with an overweight person, you cannot rely solely on any easy weight loss diet to be a cure-all’ when the psychological factor has not been considered.

The success of a weight loss program also relies on the mental attitude of the person involved so if they stay happy and do not get stressed they will more likely lose the weight they desire. The one thing that has shown to be true no matter what you do in life is that being positive about something is more likely to make it happen. The great thing about weight loss is the extra energy you feel and how much more positive your outlook is to life in general which obviously has an impact on self-esteem as well.

Once the effects of an easy weight loss program are felt by the dieter, they feel more positive about the future and realize the result they want to achieve is possible.

Can HCG Indeed Aid Weight Loss?

Friday, February 27th, 2009

The weight loss industry is rife with fads, and every other day, I see a new fad coming up. Even more surprising than the rapid innovation of fads is how easily the common people are accepting these fads without thinking twice about possible repercussions. People hope to lose weight quickly with the help of these fad products, but if you ask me, I never believe in fads, and never will! In this article I will tell you about the latest weight loss fad called HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) and how far it can help you lose weight.

To begin with, if you are wondering that HCG is just another drug, you are dead wrong! It is just a hormone which is already present in the human body. The hormone is found in abundance in the body of pregnant women. This is the reason why any woman who is detected with this hormone is confirmed to be pregnant.

People didn’t know about the benefits of HCG on overweight people until a notorious author called Kevin Trudeau came up with a book that claimed that HCG can indeed help people lose weight. For those who don’t know, Kevin Trudeau has already spent a considerable amount of time in jail for several violations of FTC guidelines. While Kevin Trudeau claims that HCG is a miraculous hormone that can help people lose weight quicker than any other weight loss supplement, there is no medical or scientific evidence that backs up this claim. Not even the manufacturers who produce a synthesized version of this hormone claim that it is beneficial for obese people. It is only a handful of doctors and experts who are claiming that they have proof of its effectiveness on overweight people.

For almost forty years, several tests and studies were done on HCG to find out the truth of these claims. A lot of research was done regarding the effectiveness of HCG on overweight people. No study or research done till date has been able to prove that HCG indeed helps weight loss. So how can the doctors claim the opposite?

Well, in case you don’t know, if you opt for HCG treatment, doctors will also ask you to follow a low calorie diet. So whether it is the low calorie diet or the HCG hormone that is helping people to lose weight we are still unsure. Last but not the least; HCG has been banned in the US long time ago. If you want to purchase synthetic HCG, you will need to purchase it either from the black market or import it from another country, both of which are very expensive for you!

If you take my advice, I would recommend that until the effectiveness of HCG is fully proved, you should just follow the old method of healthy food plan and exercises. Health food plan doesn’t mean that you will have to diet; just eat lost of raw vegetables and fruits, and drink lots of water, and make sure that you avoid the fatty and junk foods as much as possible! This is a proven way to weight loss success.

What to Look for in Diet Pills

Friday, February 27th, 2009

When choosing a diet pill, the first thing that you should look at are the ingredients. While this may sound obvious, you would be surprised how many people seem to ignore this step. The following are some guidelines to use when researching diet pill ingredients so that you can evaluate the potential effectiveness of a supplement before you purchase.

When you start to research the ingredients that are in a given diet pill, you’ll want to be sure that you use credible sources. Unfortunately, many diet pills provide information on the ingredients that sounds more like a sales pitch (because it is) than unbiased statements. A such, you should always verify their cliams by researching the ingredients for yourself. PubMed, Wikipedia, and peer-reviewed medical journals are good sources of unbiased information.

One common trick that diet pills will use is to cite a clinical study of an ingredient, but try to make it appear as though it was a study on their product itself. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great when they cite research on ingredients as long as they disclose that the research is actually on the ingredient in the diet pill. Also, many will ‘quote’ research but will give no reference to verify that the study was legitimate or that it even happened. Essentially if they don’t clearly reference the study in a way that you can find it yourself, you shouldn’t believe anything that they’ve said.

It is very important that you do your own research rather than rely upon the sales copy of the diet pills. There are some ingredients on the market (for example, hoodia gordonii and acai berry) that have become extremely popular lately that have absolutely zero well documented, legitimate scientific studies that support any of their claims to help in weight loss. It’s all a bunch of hype created by the diet pill manufacturers themselves. So don’t believe everything that you hear.

So if I check out all the ingredients in the diet pill and they look as though they’ve been proven to effectively cause weight loss, I can then assume the diet pill will work right? Well, not so fast. You then have to verify the amounts of the ingredients used. Many diet pills will use what they call ‘Proprietary Blends’ in which they don’t have to disclose the amounts of each ingredient in the pill. They only list the ingredient.

As you can imagine, it’s important to know the amounts of the ingredients. If 900 mg of a certain ingredient have been shown to be needed to be effective, and your diet pill only containts 200 mg, you can bet that you aren’t going to get the results that the studies have shown. Unfortunately when diet pills use proprietary blends, most of them take the opportunity to include a fraction of the amounts that are needed (to save on costs) and you have no way knowing.

Another thing for you to watch out for is when diet pills put a big long laundry list of ingredient on the label trying to impress you into thinking the diet pill will work. With so many ingredients you usually can’t fit the correct amounts in. So don’t be impressed.

Some of what you’ve read may seem like common sense. It is. But it’s so often overlooked by consumers that diet pill companies are making a killing by providing sub-par products. When it comes down it, the ingredients are the only things that make a pill effective. So make sure you do your homework to make the right choices when picking diet pills.
