When the first chemical was applied to a group of lab mice, it had the effect of blocking the action of BRS-3.And, as thought, the researchers shown that the animals began to eat a lot more food as the action of this receptor became impaired, and consequently gained weight.

The second chemical’s action was extremely interesting. By enhancing the action of the BRS-3, the researchers shown that it is possible to decrease appetite and increase metabolism, or attacking obesity on two fronts.

The researchers report that they did not observe any detrimental effects within the scope of this experiment, but that more research needs to be done to validate the safety of this approach. They also reported that the action of bombesin at this receptor was complimentary to other metabolic control pathways. This certainly suggests that a compound medicine may potentially be developed, one that controls weight on multiple levels.

Clearly, more research needs to be done before a safe and effective medicine to control appetite and increase metabolism is developed and introduced into the market. However, this research does seem extremely promising for those that are hoping to be able to control their weight through medicine.
