In parts of the country, throughout the year it is just not realistic to exercise outside due to weather conditions. In the cold regions you are going to be concerned about cold in the winter and in warmer climates you will be concerned about heat in the summer.
Because of this, there are a lot of people that opt to exercise indoors rather than risk any dangerous situations in the outdoors. But that doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice the quality of your workout in order to get the same level of benefits that you do outside.
Different machines help you reach your goals and the best part is that you can stay inside when you are doing it. Choose between the treadmill, the elliptical and the stair machine.
When you run on a treadmill you don’t have to think about what the weather is like outside because the heat and the cold won’t affect your experience. You can change the speed easily and you may get a better workout than running outdoors.
Another advantage of the treadmill is that it is a softer surface than if you go running outside on the streets which can be tough on your joints and knees. However, it can sometimes get quite boring to run on a treadmill if you are used to running outside.
You can go for the elliptical which gives great workouts and you don’t have to deal with impact from running. It is not an alternative to outdoor activity but rather its own exercise that people enjoy.
Another option is the stair machine which can provide a really great workout. Even if you spend just a few minutes on a stair climber you can see a lot of benefits so go slow at first.
So try out these machines and decide which one you like best and which one gives you the best workout. Then you can make use of it during the more inclement weather.
Remember that you can get just as good of a workout indoors as you can outdoors if you are committed to it. If you get bored, try reading a book while you go and in this way you are killing two birds with one stone.

The addiction is not to the food, but we really are emotionally conditioned by our past experiences. If we address the past references stored in the unconscious mind, we gain the control to take it or leave it, whatever the substance or dependency. Its okay to enjoy chocolate as long as you are in control. You must change the emotional associations from the substance and put it where it really belongs. www.FasterEFT.com
Keeping healthy is integral to your long-term well being and a lot of it starts with eating nutritious foods. By cutting the processed foods out of your diet that may be high in fat and sugar, you’ll be a lot better off.
Recently, I made the switch to a diet that consisted of wholly organic foods. There are many reasons that I chose to do this, and I couldn’t have made a better decision. Here are three small steps that you may be able to take if you’re interested in following suit.
Few people realize this, but ketchup is loaded with artificial sweeteners. If you look at the ingredients of any bottle, you’ll see that high fructose corn syrup is present as one of the first ingredients.
There are spreads that don’t contain any sweetener whatsoever, though those may be a bit bitter for your tastes. If this is the case, go for something sweetened with natural sugar. You won’t notice the difference and you’ll be doing right by your body.
Another place where the same holds true is with breads. Many loaves of bread would appear to be wholly organic but they contain high fructose corn syrup used as sweetener here too.
I would apply the same virtues to bread as the ones I just shared about catsup. Inspect the labels of anything you buy and you’ll definitely see what it’s sweetened with. With this new found knowledge, you’ll probably never look at this food the same way again.
Many people are also misled when it comes to drinks. There are many beverages that call themselves juice drinks. This doesn’t mean that you’re drinking juice here. In fact, you’re drinking loads of artificial sweeteners and chemicals.
If something is comprised of entirely juice, you can be assured that they’ll proudly advertise this. Since these drinks are out there, keep an eye open next time you’re in stores and choose these healthier options instead.
I’m a soup lover. Whether it’s a hot soup or a cold one on a summer day, it’s a great appetizer and sometimes even makes for a great meal. I’ve made all kinds for myself and I definitely have my favorites.
There are so many different things you can do with soup, and people often seem to overlook the many possibilities. Having prepared hundreds of different kinds of soup, I’ve done my best to make what some people believe to be a boring dish a very interesting one.
The first one on my list is a butternut squash soup that features an apple flavoring with it. It goes above and beyond the traditional roasted butternut squash soup by adding a nice, sweet and healthy layer to it.
2. Broccoli soup with cheddar cheese croutons. You’ve probably had the broccoli and cheddar combo on its own, but the cheese flavored crouton here is a game changer.
Here’s another idea. Potato soup, but with a golden browned potato nugget. This gives it a great crispness. The seasoning is key here, and the choice of seasoning is really yours. There are many great ways to make this soup, as I’m sure you’ll discover for yourself.
Appropriate for the time of year, why not try doing something with pumpkin? The natural spices of the pumpkin are absolutely great when hot. You can go with a creamed soup, a bisque, a gazpacho, and other original twists.
Lastly, a cream of turkey soup with turkey dumplings inside. This requires a bit more work, but it’s such a great soup and my personal favorite. If you have the energy to pull this off and you like turkey, then I know how you’ll feel about this soup.
There’s a good chance that one of the above soups may appeal to you. If I haven’t done my job, keep on thinking and I’m sure that any one of these ideas could ultimately lead to something else.
Healthy eating is probably the last thing on the minds of the more than 200,000 school students preparing for exams this month. But according to Australia’s leading nutrition organisation, eating the right food is one of the keys to exam success.
Clare Evangelista, Spokesperson for the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) said eating a balanced diet can help improve concentration.
‘What we eat has a big impact on mental performance, so we need to give our brain the right fuel to help it perform at its peak. Eating energy bars, lollies and chocolates will give students a short-term spike in energy, but this doesn’t last,’ said Ms Evangelista, an Accredited Practising Dietitian.
Clare has these top five tips for improving energy and concentration levels on exam day:
Eat breakfast - Stick with familiar foods and serve sizes on the morning of an exam as this is not the time to try anything new. Breakfast provides your brain with carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Try: - A bowl of cereal with reduced-fat milk, topped with chopped fruit and a sprinkle of almonds - Wholegrain or wholemeal toast with reduced-fat cheese and tomato, and a small fruit juice.
Eat regularly throughout the day - Eating energy-sustaining foods at meals and snacks will help to fuel the brain, maintain energy levels, and avoid dips in concentration. Try: - Sandwich, roll or wrap filled with salad vegetables, reduced-fat cheese, lean meat or tinned tuna - Fruit smoothies made with reduced-fat milk and/or yoghurt - Fruit (fresh, tinned or dried) or fruit and nut snack packs - Crackers with tomato and reduced-fat cheese, toast and spreads, fruit bread, cereal with reduced-fat milk.
Drink plenty of water - This will hydrate your body, help reduce fatigue and help your brain work. If possible, take a water bottle in to the exam with you.
Limit excess caffeine - Limit coffee, caffeinated soft drinks or guarana-containing drinks. Caffeine can act as a mild stimulant, boosting alertness and staving off fatigue, but too much can make you feel nervous and restless, and may affect how well you sleep.
Exercise - Schedule in some physical activity before or in between exams. Exercise can help reduce stress, clear your mind and improve sleep patterns.
