Do your food cravings control you?

How many diets have you been on that were totally sabotaged by giving in to your cravings?

It seems we can make all kinds of good decisions to eat healthy, exercise, REALLY lose weight this time. Then we get a little stressed, or we catch the aroma of something, or we see someone else eating what we love. It is at that moment that all resistance and willpower fade away and we give in to our cravings!

Once we give in, we often are filled with guilt or even hatred toward ourselves for not being able to control that craving. There goes our self-esteem and in comes those little words that say, “I’m such a failure at this. Ill never lose this weight. I might as well go ahead and eat what I want.”

So what are some ways to deal with cravings? Here are a few ideas.

1. DO NOT bring the food you crave into the house. Even if that affects other family members, explain that it is for your health and even sanity that the food not enter your home.

2. When that craving gets going, get yourself a big glass of water. Drinking water will assuage your craving because the water is satisfying a need of your body. Then wait a full fifteen minutes. Set the timer and go do something else. When the time goes off it is likely that your craving will be gone.

3. If you are at a grazing table, graze at the vegetable/fruit end. But, instead of grazing, put the food on your plate and then move AWAY from the table. Find someone really interesting to talk with. And yes, keep a glass of water with you.

4. When you see someone eating what you crave, turn around, move away from them, and go look for a glass of water. Our bodies are satisfied when we give them water and that helps our cravings to stay away.

So what is the connection between cravings and weight loss? I believe that we can all do quite well on a healthy choice of foods if we do not have our cravings flare up. What if you didn’t have any cravings? You wouldn’t be eating that bag of chips or that bowl of Kisses or that extra helping of pasta. If those cravings could be removed, I truly believe that your weight loss will become much simpler.

There are a couple of alternatives to overcoming your cravings.

1. Through the use of Hypnotherapy, you can figure out your emotional reasons for eating. Once that is done, your conscious mind can make better decisions and learn to control your cravings.

3. Table grazing at a party is very dangerous. First, graze at the vegetable end, but don’t really graze. You need to pick up the food and put it on your plate. Then you need to relocate! MOVE away from the table and engage someone in conversation. Oh, yes, keep a glass of water with you.

4. When you see someone eating what you crave, turn around, move away from them, and go look for a glass of water. Our bodies are satisfied when we give them water and that helps our cravings to stay away.

Weight loss and cravings - is there a connection? If you didn’t have cravings, don’t you think your body would be happier with healthy food choices? If you had no cravings, you would not be adding the extra sugar, sodium, fat, and calories to your body. Without those things, anyone could be successful with weight loss.

There are a couple of alternatives to overcoming your cravings.
